Born in India in 1926, Allen David arrived in Australia in 1948 and studied architecture at Melbourne University. He held his first exhibition in Melbourne in 1948 and ran a private gallery in Melbourne from 1958 to 1960. He is also known as a photographer and has illustrated a book on Central Australia, and is a noted sculptor with prominent glass commissions. Outside Australia, he has lived and worked in London, Tel Aviv and New York City
