Shmuel Bonneh, Israeli, Born in Poland 1930-1999.
Shmuel Bonneh was born in Poland in 1930. In 1936 he immigrated to Israel and settled with his family in Haifa. In his youth, he studied painting with Menachem Shemi, Israel Paldi, and Yohanan Simon. In 1942 he joined “HaMahanot HaOlim” and in 1947 he was sent to “Hulata” for training. There he joined the Palmach and had an active role in the war of independence. When he finished his army service he went back to study art with Shemi and Avraham Yiskal. Between 1965-1964 he lived in Paris, France.
His early works were influenced by the post-impressionist and included portraits and still life subjects. During the 1970’s, biblical subjects entered his works. Bonneh also made art in public spaces, which include stained glass and other decoration works.
