Simone Sharett, also known as Hansi Weiss, Hansi Grossman, and Jeanette Grossman, was born on September 24, 1910 in Vienna, Austria. She received a classical education and came to the United States in 1937

She lost her sister in the Holocaust and was present during the Eichmann trials in Israel. She connected with many Holocaust survivors.

She became close with Yehiel De-Nur when proofreading and translating his books. Though there is a strong World War II theme in much of her art and she competed with a larger-than-life sculpture for the New York Holocaust Memorial, her repertoire does include a variety of styles and influences including ones based on her extensive travels and studies throughout Europe and the Middle East. Simone stated that her driving force was a fascination with creation whose shimmering mosaic holds the soul in rapture so that imagination weaves its veil of magic around its wondrous facets.
