Joseph Kossonogi, Israeli painter, born in Hungary (1908-1981)

Joseph Kossonogi was born in Budapest, Hungary. He studied at the Berlin Art Academy. In 1926, he immigrated to the Land of Israel. From 1956, he lived in Safed. He was a founder of the avant-garde Massad group in Tel Aviv.

Kossonogi was known for his landscapes, interiors, women and group portraits in oils and watercolor. His works are in many public and private collections, including the collections of French President Vincent Auriol and Deputy Prime Minister of Britain, Edward Short.
