Zvi Arman, Israeli 1903-1993.

Zvi Arman was born in Lvov, Galicia. In 1920 he studied at the Institute of Applied Art in the city. In 1927, he was accepted to the Academy of Art in Krakow, where he studied art, graphics and stage design. He served as a committee member of the Association of Jewish Artists and as a member of the Polish Artists Association. He took part in the first general exhibition of Poland in 1934, so he held a solo exhibition in Katowice.

With the capture of Lvov by Nazi Germany, Argaman was imprisoned in the ghetto. In 1942 he fled to the Caucasus, where he worked as a decorator in a local theater. After the war, he returned to Poland and worked as a decorator at the city's Tarakun in Poznań.

In 1947 he emigrated to Palestine on the ship "Theodore Herzl", but the ship was caught and Arman was sent to a DP camp in Cyprus, where he participated as a teacher at the art seminar organized by Ze'ev Ben Zvi.

After immigrating to Israel he worked as an architect in the housing companies "Amidar" and "Housing and Development". In 1966 he joined the Artists' Colony in Safed.

In Armand's work stands the influence of modern art. A large space was devoted to landscape painting.

In 1998, Irka Arman (his wife) was awarded the Zvi Arman Prize for painting Zvi Tadmor for his work and contribution to the Painters and Sculptors Association.
