Zvi Meirowitz, Israeli, born in Poland, 1911-1974. Zvi Meirowitz was an Israeli painter, born in Poland. He began his academic career studying Judaism in Berlin, but soon found himself drawn to art and painting. With the rise of the Nazis to power, Meirowitz immigrated to Israel and settled in Haifa. Founder of the "New Horizons" group. He was one of the first to bring abstract painting to Israel, and is considered one of the pioneers of this genre in the country. He developed a unique painting technique using pastel chalk, which gained great popularity after his death.
